Defending Stephanie Seymour

Here’s an example of someone trashing the beautiful Stephanie Seymour for daring to be affectionate with her son in public. I’ll edit the quotes slightly to remove language that some people still get upset about.

One of the things that has me saying “Are you f------ stupid?” are the photos of Stephanie Seymour and her son.

She goes on…

The photos do look like she’s making out with her son. A little creepy…yes!

Why is that creepy?

Is it normal for a son to cop a feel of the boobies?

For some people, yes. Jealous?

Turns out her son is gay. Which apparently makes it ok to make out with your hot Mom on a beach.

It’s okay for any adult to be affectionate with any consenting adult on a beach. It should certainly be legal.

My question is, “Are you f------ stupid?”

Maybe they were simply having some minimal affection. Or maybe it is a sign of more. What’s the problem? What’s stupid is trashing others for sharing love and affection.

I have to admit, I’m vey curious to hear your thoughts on the pics.

My thought is that it is too bad that everyone can’t be on such good terms with their parent or child.

Tasty Apples and Rotten Oranges

MissSwatty was on Facebook and something caught her attention.

One of my FB friends posted why she hated incest sex and after reading her purge, I was prompted to congratulate her for her bravery.

This is not written very clearly. At first, I was wondering if she considered it bravery to express a hatred for incest. But it looks like she is saying her friend was revealing that she (the friend) was a victim of sexual abuse and MissSwatty thoight her friend brave for admitting that.

As we went back and forth, posting this, commenting about that, she shared with me the name of an individual in India who enjoys having sex with his mother. I immediately thought, 'what the hell?' but minimized my judgment--or at least tried--as cultural differences may allow for such acts (but even still, what the hell?). Definitely judging and thrown off guard as incest sex is a deplorable act and often requires years of therapy/talking/venting, etc to fully recover, I had to 'see' for myself. And so, I ventured to his wall in hopes of uncovering a sick joke but to be exact, it, indeed, is an act that him and his mother, unapologetically, engage in on a regular basis.

If they both enjoy it, what is the problem?

His wall was covered with posts such as 'My morning was good...... had a small ride with my mother in bed.....', 'While having a ride in morning, mom was in green night gown and blue panty with printed design flowers.....', and 'Today my mother was wearing cream color bra and brown panty. She removes them before sleeping.' Further deepening my disgust was the comments left by others that included, 'How old is ur mom dude? i think shes so delicious hot mom...', 'nice man....' lucky guy....', and 'what position did u use in morning? normal or backfire....?'

What is the problem? If she doesn’t like it, she doesn’t have to read it. The blogger then invites her readers to “blast” the man.

As a victim of incest, I am..... ENRAGED. CONFUSED. SPEECHLESS. DISGUSTED.

We’re talking about two different things. Apparently, MissSwatty was molested or raped, and that’s horrible. That’s not what the man in India is talking about. He has consensual sex with his mother. This is like a man getting angry about someone talking about gay sex because he was once assaulted by another man. We are comparing tasty apples to rotten oranges here.

She goes on to post correspondence between them where she asserts that what he’s doing is digusting. Judgmental, much?

Woman's Incest Conviction Upheld in Canada

A mother, known as "B.D.", lost her appeal of her conviction on incest and other charges. The case developed after it was discovered that a child who died was the offspring of her and her 21-year-old son, who was also her husband. They have two other children together as well. The other criminal offenses included trying to forge birth certificates.

An autopsy revealed the girl who was brought to Cambridge Memorial Hospital one June morning in 2001 had died of natural causes. However, the glands on top of her kidneys were very thin.

It’s a condition that can result from incestuous conception.

Police grew suspicious and asked Ontario’s Centre of Forensic Sciences to set aside a sample of the girl’s blood for possible DNA testing.

The appeal was based on whether or not the police should have been allowed to do that.

The 21-year-old man who brought the child to hospital had identified himself as her brother.

But the girl’s mother, then 47, claimed he was her husband.

As it turns out, both were right.

Until the laws change, it would be good to avoid self-incrimination.
On Thursday, the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld her convictions for incest in a case Justice Robert Blair described as giving “new meaning to the word bizarre.”

People used to think interracial and same-sex marriage were "bizarre" too. But we've overcome such bigotry.

He Has a Girlfriend, But is Still Active With Sister, Mother

This guy is a senior at a university and has a girlfriend he wants to marry, but he’s been keeping a secret from her.

I am into incest. Not in a fetish or fantasy way, but as a lifestyle. My sister who is a year younger than me and I have been having sex since I was sixteen and she was fifteen. About a year after we started our mom caught us in the act. Instead of being upset mom said something about her always wanting this to happen, then she asked if she could join us.

He goes on to write that with varying frequency, he’s been having sex with his sister and sex with his mother ever since.

Should I tell my girlfriend. Should I invite her to participate. I love her, but I still have strong family love for both my mom and my sister. Think of it this way, my love for my mom and sis are probably the same as yours for your mom and the rest of your immediate family. The only difference is the I have sex with my family. I never thought of sex with mom or my sister as “cheating” on my girlfriend.

I know some people see it that way, but I think if his girlfriend believes they have agreed to strict monogamy or wants to know about any other current sex partners, then I think he is cheating on his girlfriend. He doesn’t make it clear his mother and sister know about his girlfriend, and so he could very well be cheating on them, as well. But I think the silence about that implies that his sister and mother are aware of his relationship with his girlfriend.

He certainly should not marry his girlfriend without her being aware of and agreeable to any ongoing sexual relationship with anyone else. That means he does have the option of ending the sex with his sister and mother, or telling his girlfriend what is going on. I’d say there is what would be a minority chance she will agree to marry him (or stay with him at all) if he tells her what has been going on. The chance is even smaller that she’d be agreeable to this continuing, and even smaller that she would join in. If she would join in (and his sister and mother would likewise be agreeable) than he’d be quite a lucky guy. It isn’t unheard of for someone to agree to share a person with two of the person’s relatives, though each situation is different.

I have to wonder if this would be an issue if we had full marriage equality. Perhaps the writer would marry his sister, his mother, or both?

John Z told the writer to stop having sex with his sister and mother…

Although I don’t personally know anybody who has had vaginal intercourse with their mothers, I do have two friends, each of whom had a sexual relationship with their sisters during high school. Both of these guys are in very secure marriages (both now over 30 years), have children, and have been very successful in life. I had no knowledge of their incestuous relationships until well after college when each of them told me about it (one, because I lusted after his sister in high school and he was aware of it… lucky guy!). So, it is isn’t impossible to end an incestuous relationship.

Of course it isn’t impossible. It isn’t necessary in many cases where others advise it, but it is possible.

While John Z was neutral about the consanguineous sex, the other two responses were from bigots.

Mother and Son Affectionate, Bigots Freak Out

The gossip media is abuzz talking about supermodel Stephanie Seymour and her 18-year-old son Peter Brant II. Why? There are pictures of them enjoying some time together (with others) in the surf, including pictures of them embracing, kissing, holding hands. In some of the pictures, Brant’s hand is on the side of his mother’s swimsuit-clad breast as they hug. There is also speculation about whether Brant’s body is showing a sexual a reaction. Of course, at that age, that can happen for no reason at all.

There is nothing wrong with any of this. Shame on anyone who would try to discourage affection between a parent and adult child. What’s in the pictures could be the extent of their physical affection. Or maybe there is more. But that is between them, and I think a lot of people are jealous either way, as they are both attractive people, and some people wish they had even the most minimal contact with their parents or children. Do not tear down others for having a warm relationship.

Salon.com recaps some of the buzz.

A supermodel in a bikini kissing a hot guy is surefire tabloid fodder -- but a supermodel in a bikini kissing her son? That is pure, creepy gold.

Creepy? Yes, the bigots seem to think so.

Does it matter that Seymour, who recently reconciled with estranged husband Peter Brant, was on vacation with her whole family at the time? Does it matter that the photos were clearly taken in rapid succession, from at least two different angles, suggesting that what might appear a languorous caress was instead a brief embrace? Does it matter, further, that Peter Jr. is openly gay?

It doesn’t matter to the gossips. Some of the people commenting on the coverage probably think that a man who is strictly gay can be "turned" by the "right" woman. The writer shows intelligence…

But how many random news sites or commenters on them could confidently recognize familial warmth if they saw it? Maybe the idea that a teenage child would still even want to put an arm around his mother, would offer an unsolicited kiss, is so rare as to be downright odd. But that doesn't automatically make it weird or gross or creepy. And as any mother with a rapidly growing up child knows, it might even make it enviable.

It isn’t weird or gross or creepy either way. If it isn’t for you, that’s fine. Don’t begrudge others affection and love. Check out the pictures for yourself. They are quite nice.

"Back to the Future" and GSA

Over at Slate, Juliet Lapidos compares and contrasts “Back to the Future,” which is now 25 years old, with Oedipus Rex.

In elementary school, I was only dimly aware of these incestuous themes. If you've graduated from eighth grade, you can't miss them. I rewatched Back to the Future on the occasion of its quarter-century anniversary (it's newly available in Blu-ray), and can attest that incest is absolutely central to the plot.

What's genius about Back to the Future, however, is that it still manages to be unfailingly PG. It's a film about having sex with your family that's family-friendly.

True, there no sex seen on screen other than kisses and an attempted assault.

This seems icky. So icky that, when writers Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis pitched the idea for Back to the Future to Disney, the studio purportedly said that a mother falling in love with her son was not appropriate for their brand.

Universal green-lighted the project, but Disney's objection was not lost on producer Steven Spielberg, who once told Empire magazine that he "thought the Oedipal aspect was really gross."

Some people consider foods that others enjoy very much to be gross. Thankfully, this didn’t stop Spielberg from producing the film. And it should not stop people who have real-life love for each other.

Lorraine's infatuation never feels un-Disney, however. Back to the Future presents mother-son attraction not as a perversion, but as one of those things that just happens and kinda makes sense, if you think about it, since in this reality mother and son are the same age.

It makes sense for people who aren't the same age, too. I remember that when the mother character (Lorraine) kisses her son, unaware that he is her son, she pulls back and says it feels wrong, like she is kissing her brother. This was probably included to make Spielberg and others less queesy. But as we’ve seen many times in real life, especially with GSA situations, she would probably have more intense attraction to him, not less.

If mother and son had been contemporaries, would they have dated?

In reality, a son is likely to have some of the looks and mannerisms that attracted his mother to his father in the first place, as well as some of her own or those of her close family members. This can be very powerful in attracting people to each other, especially if they did not spend the last 20 years in a parent-child or sibling relationship.

He's Considering His Mother

There's no way to know for sure if someone is being sincere or not when they submit a question to Yahoo Answers, but either way, we can learn something by the questions being asked and the responses given. The responses to questions like this one usually include a bunch expressing the standard prejudice, ignorance, and bigotry. It is always good to have the reasonable and helpful answers pop up, too. In this instance, the asker claims to be contemplating approaching his mother for a consanguineous sexual relationship.

my roommate from college has been my friend for the last 3-4 years and I found out hes been sleeping with his mom since he was 17. though i admit his mom is beautiful i was disgusted at 1st but i got over it cause hes probably my best friend and the coolest guy i know.

This is the best way allies are made: through personal relationships. It helps people get over an initial prejudice.

but hes been talking to me about it and though i didnt want to hear any of it at 1st the more he talks to me about it the more im liking it and last night while i was at my girls place the whole time i was picturing my mom and it disgusted me and excited me at the same time and now i think i wanna be with my mom cause ive begun to look at her as a women and i realized shes very attractive.

There are many factors to consider when comptemplating approaching anybody in addition to physical attractiveness.

please no trolls or a--holes do u think i should go for it or no i love her but im afraid that id ruin our relationship.

Well that’s the big consideration, isn’t it? Approaching some unrelated acquaintance who attends the same college might result in that person avoiding you in the future should they rebuff your advances, or should you stop seeing each other after a while. Or you might not want to have to sit in the same class. In that case, it is not a big risk. But it is a different matter when it is someone who is closer to you, or with whom you already have some existing relationship, whether familial, emotional, business, or otherwise.

This person appears to have a girlfriend, and I do not recommend having sex with anybody else when you have an existing vow to someone that precludes that. So even if the asker decides to approach his mother, he should only do so if he has broken it off with the girlfriend or has agreement from the girlfriend to sleep with others. And now that I think about it more, the asker does not mention if his mother has a husband, boyfriend, or dates, or other children, and those things matter. I'm assuming she doesn't.

All the research ive done so far has said that those that go into incest as consensual adults usually have happier lives if u can believe.

Generalizations can be problematic, but yes, there are people who are happier than they were before once they have a consensual consanguineous sexual relationship.

i just turned 22 and shes 37 and in truth i have been with older women and also she cant have kids she got her tubes tied long ago

Prior experience with older women can be helpful.

So what kind of responses were left? From the “Best Answer” came this:

You will have some hefty obstacles to overcome, not the least of which is the fact that your mom has not been having these sexual fantasies.

It is possible she has, however slim the chances.

But if you actually love your mother and don't want to just "do" her a couple of times to see what it's like, then you need to take a deep breath, step back and consider what will happen afterward. How will having sex with her change you, and change her? How will you act to each other?

Good advice.

What kind of people will you be once you lose the "mother/son" roles?

It can be more complicated than that. Do they have to lose those roles, or will they add to them?

And it is possible for consensual adult incest relationships to succeed. But it takes an incredible commitment, depth of understanding, partnership, and strength of character that most people simply are not capable of. Do you want to expose your mom to the risks you could be letting her in for, making her go through all the emotional pain and upheaval that you may or may not be willing to face yourself?

These are important considerations that apply somewhat to all relationships, but are more pronounced in an example like this.

On to another answer…

The best thing to do in this case is ask your friend if he is willing to share his mom. Your friend and his mom might like the idea of a 3 way and then you can decide if it is gross or not.

This makes no sense. First of all, just because the three of them all want consanguineous sex does not mean that any of the three of them (and it would take all three) want a threesome or ongoing triad. Having sex with one or two other people will not indicate if his feelings for his mother are a passing infatuation or something more.

Who knows if she and he are willing she might just let you call her mom.

Role playing is different from actual experience.

Women are beautiful, but complex creatures. The specifics of what one woman wants and what works in romancing or seducing one women might be very different from another woman. My advice in this case (if he has considered everything, both of them are free, and he does want to go ahead) is much as it would be in general:

Be on your best, most mature behavior. You want her to see you as a man, not as a little boy.

Make an effort to be as presentable as possible.

Spend time with her pay attention to her, and what it is that she needs and wants. Show her you love, respect, and appreciate her.

Do things for her to make her life less stressful, such as chores around the home and running errands. Make it a point to thank her for the things she does.

Compliment her, especially on things a boyfriend might (what she’s wearing, how she’s looking, her smile, her laugh, her sense of humor).

Send her gifts/flowers for those special days, or even when it isn’t a special day, “just to say thanks and I love you.”

Take her on dates. They don’t have to be expensive; they can be something like a sunset picnic. Wine and dine her (forget the wine if she has a drinking problem). It can be helpful to get out of town for the weekend to someplace where people don’t know you, especially a place where couples go. Longer vacations can also be a catalyst.

Be there when she comes home from work and surpise her by preparing a warm bubble bath for her complete with wine (non-alcoholic if she has a drinking problem), candles, romantic/relaxing music. Tell her you’ll give her a massage after the bath. (You can read up on giving good massages.) Let her know she doesn't have to worry about dinner (prepare or buy something you know she enjoys).

Try to ascertain her openness to being with younger men in general, or with you by giving her the ability to reveal her desire or curiousity – and/or give her hints about your feelings - in a nonjudgmental setting that allows some deniability. This can be tricky, but what I mean by that is incrementalism, open-ended questions, double entendres, compliments, jokes, and “hypotheticals” can be helpful. For example, without giving away the identity, tell her how nice it is that someone you know is in love, then tell her cautiously that it is with an older woman, and then tell her cautiously that it is his mother, and talk about how it is working well for them. If the very idea obviously thoroughly disgusts her, you’ll have your answer, at least for now. But if she only expresses half-hearted objection or expresses anything more positive than that, you’ll know she is at least open-minded.

Show her you are a reliable, trustworthy person who can keep her confidence. There is a lot of prejudice towards this kind of thing and you don’t want her to worry that others will find out before she’s ready for them to know – which might be never.

Above all, as with any advance, be prepared to accept rejection and never disrespect, harass, or try to coerce.  In situations like this, an initial rejection might be reversed if you handle the rejection the right way. Sometimes, someone just needs a little time to think about it.

As always, if anyone else has experience with situations like this (or even if you don't) I'm happy to get comments.

Abuse and Consanguineous Sex in Japan

This article by Lloyd DeMause has disturbing information about the sexual abuse of children in Japan by family members are others. I condemn nonconsensual sex, and in most circumstances, someone under a certain age can’t truly consent to someone is significantly older, or to someone who is their legal guardian.

However, there was some information about sexuality that isn’t experienced under such horrid conditions.

One of the most endogenous societies in the world, Japan has approved of incestuous marriages in court circles even in historical times. Preferred sibling, cousin, uncle-niece and aunt-nephew marriages have been so extensive that genetics experts have discovered that the inbreeding has affected their size and health.

Traditional marriage?

One indication of what is likely to be found is a 1959 study by Kubo showing that there were still rural areas in Japan where fathers married their daughters when the mother had died or was incapacitated, “in accordance with feudal family traditions. Kubo concluded that incest was considered “praiseworthy conduct” in many traditional rural families. In the 36 incest cases he studied in Hiroshima, he found that there was often community moral disapproval of the families who lived in open incestuous marriages, but that the participants themselves did not think of it as immoral. In fact, when the father was unavailable to head the family, his son often took over his role and had sex with his sister in order “to end confusion in the order of the home.” Other members of the family accepted this incest as normal.

I’ll never think of the song “Turning Japanese” the same way again.

The most commonly reported incest occurs when the mother sees her son masturbate as a teenager and tells him, “It’s not good to do it alone. Your IQ becomes lower. I will help you,” or “You cannot study if you cannot have sex. You may use my body,” or “I don’t want you to get into trouble with a girl. Have sex with me instead.” The researchers found that Japanese mothers and sons often sleep in the same bed and have sex together, although the exact incidence in the population was not investigated.

“Teenager” is a wide-ranging term. A nineteen year-old is not a thirteen year-old. So the above practice can be abusive or it can be positive, depending on the age.

According to the phone interviews, Japanese mothers teach their sons how to masturbate helping them to achieve first ejaculation in much the same manner as they earlier helped them with toilet training.

I didn’t need any help from anyone to learn to masturbate. I’m thinking Japanese boys are no different in that respect. I’m sure they can figure it out.

Parents, older siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents should never abuse or take advantage of their children or pimp them out. Death is too good for such people. But siblings who are close in age, or a nineteen-year-old son or daughter and parent can have positive, loving, consensual sex, and should not be attacked for doing so; they should be allowed to marry if that’s what they choose. A clear distinction needs to be made between abuse and consensual sex.

Update on Unjust Prosecution

News sources have printed more about the 33-year-old convicted child molester whose claims of consensual sexual relationship with his mother has resulted in her facing criminal charges. We learn in this article how the matter came to the attention of the the authorities.

The details of the son’s relationship with his mother came to light after he divulged the information to his therapist, who was required to report the abuse to law enforcement under the mandatory reporting law, said Dan Donohoe, spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

That law makes sense when one of the participants is coerced or underage. But that’s not what happened here. The law should be changed. Law enforcement personnel should have filed the information under “That’s interesting” and kept their focus on crimes in which there are victims. Adult consensual sex should not be a criminal matter.

The Unjust Prosecution of Katheryn Thornton

Officials in King County, Seattle should be ashamed of themselves for prosecuting Katheryn M. Thornton for having consensual sex for eighteen months with a man who was about 27 years of age when it started. Reading through the various news reports, it appears that the man, whose name is not given due to his “victim” status, could be using unjust laws against adult, consensual, consanguineous sex for nefarious reasons.

From the Seattle Times…

A 54-year-old Eastside woman has been charged with first-degree incest for allegedly conducting a two-year sexual relationship with an adult son she had given up for adoption when he was an infant.

Sounds like a possible case of GSA.

Katheryn M. Thornton invited her son, now 33, to live with her near Kirkland in March 2004 after he tracked her down through an adoption agency, according to charging papers filed in King County Superior Court earlier this month.

He tracked her down. Then she invited him into her home. He could have said “no” right then and there, for starters. I wonder if he is planning to sue her and the adoption agency?

In May, the man reported the alleged incest to a King County sheriff's detective.

Why would he do this? Blackmail? Revenge? I have my suspicions.

He told the detective that the day after he moved in, Thornton "came into his room and lay next to him. He said [on] day three, she invited him into her room. He said on day four, they had sex," charging papers say.

He would have been about 27 at the time. There is no indication in the news coverage that he was of congenital or drug-induced mental deficiency. No force indicated. This was consensual. Why is this a crime?

The man said the sexual relationship lasted until March 2006, according to the charges.

Why did it last so long? Surely he is stronger than her, and able to be independent. He was probably enjoying himself.

The son, who is not being named because he is considered a victim of sexual assault, was granted a sexual-assault protection order against Thornton on Tuesday, barring her from coming within 500 feet of him, court records show.

This is convenient for him. We’ll see why later.

First-degree incest is a Class B felony. If convicted, Thornton would face a 12- to 14-month prison sentence and be required to register as a sex offender.

This is outrageous. He is just as “guilty” as she is. Can you imagine going to prison for this? Registering as a sex offender? I want to know if a child molester or rapist moves in to my neighborhood. I have no reason to fear a woman who has consensual sex with another adult.

The Associated Press picked up the story, but at least they don’t give her name in the report I saw, as they shouldn’t unless they want to come to her defense. His name should be published alongside hers, or neither name should be published. I include her name because I do want her to know there are people who are against this persecution of her.

From Seattle Weekly…

And on the fourth night, mother and son had sex for the first time, beginning what would eventually become an incredibly creepy 18-month relationship.

Why is that creepy? This blogger’s bigotry is showing.

Thornton told prosecutors that she was excited to have her son living with her and that the two had an "awareness." Like many love birds, the relationship started off hot and heavy, with Thornton reporting that initially they had sex all the time, including in a locked bathroom so her other children wouldn't catch them, but eventually the amorous affections tapered off to about once every two weeks.

Sounds like many other relationships with a passionate start and ups and downs. I believe her account because he didn’t leave. It is understandable when dependents don’t leave. He was no dependent or hostage.

Given that he was an adult at the time, it wouldn't seem that the man should be considered a victim. But the King County prosecutor's office has charged Thornton with first-degree incest, a felony. And Deputy Chief of Staff Ian Goodhew says the office has its reasons.

"We're pretty conservative when we make a charging decision regarding incest," says Goodhew. "But there were a number of concerning factors weighed before filing this charge."

Those factors: the two underage kids living with Thornton.

Then charge them both with child endangerment, though I fail to see what the legal problem is given that married people, unmarried cohabitating people, and virtual strangers have sex all of the time even though there are children in the same home.

And the way she confessed to sleeping with her son with no apparent sense that it might be against the law or, ya know, morally repugnant.

It shouldn’t be against the law. And how is it morally repugnant? Merely saying it is doesn’t make it so.

Now here is where we start to get a better idea of what is really going on here…

The wheels were put in motion in May, when Thornton's son plead guilty to a (surprise, surprise) charge of child molestation.

So a child molester complains that a woman has been having sex with him for eighteen months? Hey, I agree that people should shun child molesters (which would include not having sex with them) but there’s nothing illegal about adults having sex with child molesters. It happens all of the time, unfortunately.

But it is awfully convenient that a child molester’s name is being kept out of the media now because he is a “victim.” Is he getting some sort of deal in his case for this, too?

From this report, we get…

The son said his mother's younger children knew he slept in Thornton's bedroom, but they did not know about the sex, according to the documents.

Maybe they didn’t, maybe they did. I don't think his word is worth much. Children sometimes think of their parents only have sex enough times to make them. Other children figure things out for themselves. And still others just don’t think about it at all, if they are prepubescent.

If this man is a child molester, she shouldn’t have exposed her children to him. But she isn’t being charged for that. She is being charged with having consensual sex with another adult, behind closed doors. We need these laws wiped off the books. Prosecute people for child endangerment, neglect, abuse, molestation, assault, rape, you name it. But let’s not allow consensual sex between adults to be prosecuted or illegal.

I call on any judge or jury that gets a say in this case to refuse to convict someone of a crime for having consensual sex in private.

Another Pair Jailed For Consensual Sex

In Zimbabwe, a man turned in his wife and son for having sex with each other, and wife and son are going to jail for three years.

Shuvai Mudzingwa, 33, and 18-year-old son, Michael Tuesday were beginning a three-year jail term each after admitting incest before a Gweru magistrate.

Prosecuting, Chipo Matshe told the court that the two lovebirds’ illicit affair was unravelled after they became reckless – romping on occasions while her husband and Michael’s two siblings slept nearby.

I don’t condone cheating. However, I find this prosecution of consensual sex to be ridiculous. If this is the wife’s biological son, then she birthed him around the age of 15. That’s quite young. We don’t get the age of the husband in this report. I wonder why that is?

On July 11 this year, the court heard, Shuvai sneaked out of bed just after midnight – leaving her husband snoring away.

Shuvai, her husband, together with the son shared one bedroom which is only separated by a curtain stretched across the room.

Not the ideal conditions for monogamy.

While in the act, Michael’s father then woke up to the noises and as he started to shout at the wife and son asking why they were doing such a despicable thing tried to separate the two. According to the report which police are backing, Mudzingwa struggled to pull the two apart but this was impossible as they were virtually ‘glued’ to each other body to body.

The two then physically overpowered Mudzingwa forcing him out of the house and telling him to leave them alone, the report continues.

Feeling both shock and shame, Mudzingwa is said to have went away to work and did not come back. According to Midlands province Inspector Patrick Chademana, Mudzingwa later came back on the following night and found the two continuing in their incestuous acts.

Sounds like they are in love.

Shuvai admitted in court to sleeping with her son on four occasions. She said the sex sessions with her son started when her husband deserted her and vowed never to return.

Looks like there is a lot more to this story than we’re getting. If her husband did abandon her, then as far as I’m concerned, she should have been free to move on. But if he had abandoned her, he obviously came back. The crime, though, is apparently "incest" and not adultery. Regardless, I don’t see why this should be something from criminal courts to deal with.

Don't Be Blind to Love

The classic tale of Oedipus Rex is being retold in a modernized setting in an off-Broadway production. According to the New York Post’s Frank Scheck, it keeps the original’s anti-consanguineous love elements. At least mostly.

But for all its contemporary furniture, explicit sex and profanity, "Blind" adds little to the story other than to remind us that it's still really, really bad to sleep with your mother.

Not everyone agrees. This is like saying "Titanic" reminds us not to take cruises. It isn’t for everyone.

When Oedipus finally suspects the truth and confronts her, it leads to blindness and death.

What would have been refreshing would have been a new take, in which there is happy ending.

At another point, the pair engage in a screaming match before taking a break for a glass of red wine. They eventually wind up in a furious sexual coupling that makes incest seem, well, really hot.

Looks like some people want to have their cake and eat it, too.
